I attended college at both the University of Montana and Seattle University and have a master's degree in teaching English as a second language. That is my main area of expertise, but I am also comfortable teaching any level or area of English. I have worked with non-native speakers of all different ages and skill levels. I can also assist students with test preparation for things like the GRE. My main goal as a teacher is to instill each and every student with the skills they will need as they go forward to solve any future problems, rather than simply the material we are currently working on. I do this by centering the lessons on improving the students' abilities and not just guiding them to the desired answer. When working in ESL, I have found that a good strategy is including comparisons to similar words in the students' first languages whenever that is possible for me. When I am not working as a teacher or tutor, I like to spend my time reading, hiking, camping, traveling, taking photos, playing games, and watching sports.
